Jao Tsung-I Academy, former Lai Chi Kok Hospital, is located on a hillside. It has an area of 32,000 sq m with over 15 blocks of various sizes on 3 different levels connected by tower lifts and walking trails. The High and Middle Zones feature a variety of arts and cultural facilities and a landscaped garden. The Low Zone houses the gallery, heritage hall and souvenir corner.

With a rich history, the site was once a customs station, quarters for Chinese laborers, a quarantine station, a prison, an infectious disease hospital and a psychiatric rehabilitation center, and is a Grade III historic building.
