Characteristics:
Built in 1669, Lo Wai Tsuen is the oldest village in Tsuen Wan. It is situated in south of Lo Wai Road, within 5 to 10 minutes driving distance of Tsuen Wan town centre. With Hilltop Country Club and the woodlot area of Shing Mun Reservoir at its back, distance view of Shek Wai Kok Estate and Luk Yeung Sun Chuen are in sight from the village. The village comprises rows of houses, of which many were old-style brick houses roofed in tiles and some were modern 3 storeys cottages, providing the population of over 2000 with shelters for their inspirational and plain living. The key feature of Lo Wai Tsuen is the dozens of Buddhist, Taoist and Confucianist temples and monasteries, including the famous Western Monastery, Yuen Yuen Institute and Tung Po Tor Tse. The only Tibetan Buddhist temple in Hong Kong is also located here. It is not surprise to see monks often all over the village.
