Characteristics:
Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence is located on the rugged Lei Yue Mun Headland with lots of military relics. Converted from the hundred years' old Lei Yue Mun Fort, the museum is made up of 3 main areas, namely the Reception area, the Redoubt, and the Historical Trail. The Reception area is the main entrance point to the museum where the carpark, reception hall, passengers' lifts and lecture hall, etc are found. The Redoubt, the core structure of the museum, is covered with a specially designed tensile structure, which gives a unique look to this museum. The entrance of the Redoubt is restored to its original form and a new bridge is built over the defence ditch to provide access to it. The lower level of this area is the permanent exhibition galleries and the upper level consists of thematic exhibition galleries. A cafeteria and toilet facilities are housed in a block built to the east of the Redoubt, overlooking the harbour. Along the Historical Trail are more than 10 military relics that evidence the strategic location of the former Lei Yue Mun fortification.
