Mid-Autumn Festival falls on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar when the Chinese used to celebrate harvest. There are quite a few legends and stories about the festival. The popular ones include Chang E's flying to the moon after taking the immortality pills stolen from her husband, a tyrannical ruler, and passing the message for an uprising along in moon cakes. Moon gazing, moon-cake eating and lantern playing are some of the customs at Mid-Autumn Festival. In Hong Kong, large scale lantern exhibition, Chinese riddle guessing evening parties, etc, are held in venues like the Victoria Park. Families will enjoy their evening there playing lanterns, picnicking with seasonal fruits and delicious moon cakes under the full moon.
