Convened by senior TV professional Siuming TSUI and 21 founding members, the association was founded in 2004 as the first non-governmental and non-profit making organisation in Hong Kong representing television professionals comprising TV engineers, producers, scriptwriters, actors, distributors and other industry players. The association strives to unify members of the local television industry, promote the developments of the industry, strengthen TV trade and professional exchanges and co-operations with Mainland China and the rest of the world, and train a new generation of TV professionals. |
| Credits: |
The association captures the opportunities arising from the Mainland and Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA). The restriction of "Hong Kong artists ratio" for Mainland's TV programmes was relaxed. The number of non-mainland artists can now be increased according to the script. The procedure for filming in Mainland China by Hong Kong TV professionals was also simplified. The minimum number of words for the synopsis of each episode of TV series was reduced from 5,000 to 1,500. In 2005, the association initiated a charity fund to provide emergency aid to professionals working in the TV industry in Hong Kong. The association organised a brand new project "TV World" in FILMART 2007. TV industry experts, together with government officials from Hong Kong, Mainland China and overseas were invited to share their views in the opening forum. Such a platform of information exchange and trade professionals meeting was continued in 2008. The association is also one of the major training institutions in "The Skills Upgrading Scheme" organised by the Hong Kong Government to provide professional training and courses to the
in-service TV workers to enhance their skills and competitiveness. Since its inception in 2004, the scheme has offered more than 135 classes benefiting more than 2,650 in-service TV workers. |
